The similarities are simply too strong for me to ignore. Now I don’t mean all of you. There are still people out there who have resisted the allure of The One Ring to Rule Them All. But a fat chunk of you were unable to resist the temptation, and just as the great lords and warriors of Men, decided to brandish the Rings of Power.</p><p>You find yourselves so powerful. But a great deal of you have already confided: you’re not able to act without them anymore. Not as you once did. You’ve become servants of the dark lord.</p><h1>W.I.P article</h1><p>…</p><h1>Husks of your former selves</h1><p>There are many things that are eerily on the nose here. You don’t seem like yourselves anymore. The things which we all found beatiful, you no longer share with us. The glint in your eyes when describing one of your interests? Gone. Passionate arguments about the pros and cons of so and so? Why bother you say. Your ring will solve it.</p><p>All you do is think about The Ring. How does The Ring fit into all of this? Feeling jealous about the achivements of others? Well don’t worry. The Ring can give you anything you desire. Or so it’s maker claims. I can see no pride in the things you do with it. Yet you’ll defend The Ring to the bitter end. It could be your precious after all.</p><h1>Does Your Ring Work</h1><p>I don’t care. If it works then I’m still concerned about you. If your rings don’t work then things are even sadder. They could be the most powerful rings out there. Second only to one. I don’t care. Something working is not an argument for something being righteous.</p><h1>Using Sauron’s Ring for Good</h1><p>The thing about The Ring is that it changes your view of the world.</p><h1>Do I have hope for You</h1><div class="block aside"><p> Gollum was always my favorite character as a kid. I later learned that Tolkien loved him as well. In hindsight it makes sense. I think many of us recognize their struggles against vice in Gollum. Gollum is The Fallen Man in Tolkien’s story. And we’re all The Fallen Man in our own. Who are told to love each other.</p></div><p>Absolutely. It seems most snap out of this eventually. Perhaps you can be the Bilbo in your story. I think that would be beautiful. Tolkien once confirmed he wanted to give Gollum a good ending. But in the end he opted not to because it would be immersion breaking. Gollum however lived to see 589 years. That’s a lot of time spent mostly under the influence of The Ring.
